League 1: 3 Player Volleyball - WEDNESDAYS

The 3's league is played every Wednesday from 6pm. This league is for teams who play at an intermediate level of volleyball and have a good knowledge of the rules and skills of playing beach volleyball. Weekly match fees are £15/team to be paid prior to your game. Each match lasts 36 mins and is made up of three 12 min sets. A refundable deposit of three weeks match fees (£45) are required at the start of each league.

General Rules

  • At the beginning of each game, the referee will call upon the team captains for a coin toss or pebble in the hand. The successful captain may then choose to serve or select the end that the tem starts at
  • Teams must be registered and paid for before matches unless agreed by staff on the day
  • A maximum of three touches on one team before the ball passes over the net
  • If the ball makes any contact with the court line the ball is in/ if the ball lands outside of the line it is out
  • If there is an obstruction to the referees view, not allowing a definitive decision, a let will be played
  • Three sets of 12 minutes will be played with a change of ends after each set
  • There is a one minute break between sets if required
  • The game will be stopped if another ball enters the court and a let will be played
  • If a ball appears to be going out it must be left to make contact with the sand, any touch on the ball will deem the shot to have been played
  • If it is a draw at the end of time an extra point will be played. There will be no drawn games

Shots

  • When smashing, the hand must make full contact with the ball, no tipping with the fingers is allowed
  • The ball can be played off of any part of the body
  • Double touches are only allowed when accidental and on receiving the first shot over the net
  • No carrying of the ball (please ask if you do not know what a carry is)
  • If the ball hits the net on your side, a team member can still play the ball off the net, as long as you have not used all three touches
  • Sets must be clean avoiding double touches
  • If setting over the net the shoulders must be perpendicular and face the direction of the set

The Serve

  • Once the ball has left the hand it counts as a serve. You may not throw the ball up a second time to attempt a second serve
  • The ball cannot be blocked or smashed from the serve
  • The ball must be received below the top of the net line from a serve
  • When serving, the feet must be behind the base line and must not go under or contact the line in any way
  • A player may not make contact with the net unless it is an accident (ie not in the process of making or blocking a shot)
  • A player may not block the view of the opposing server and must move if asked to do so
  • A ball coming over the net cannot be received as a set unless the ball is hard driven (i.e a hard smash) and may not be received as a set from the serve. (In-house rule)
  • The server must wait for the referees whistle before serving
  • All players in the team must take a turn in serving on a rotational basis
  • Points are obtained on all serves (rally point)
  • The serve is still in play if it hits the top of the net and goes over

Substitutions

  • A team cannot substitute a player whilst a point is being played
  • Unlimited substitutions are allowed in a match but it must not slow the game down
  • Any substitutes must be ready for the game prior to the commencement and players arriving from other games may not be used
  • All spectators and substitutes must stay clear of game play and off of the court

Lateness/No Shows

  • If a team is late, points or sets will be deducted. The decision will be made by the referee dependent upon the arrival time
  • Teams that do not show for a match lose all three sets 11-0
  • The referees decision IS FINAL
